Today I got my first stone chip. Godammit!

What do people recommend? I done a quick search and seen chipex.co.uk(£~£27 for cheapest set). I presume your OPC need to order paint pens as can't see anything online? I presume a paint pen might be cheaper and given I only have a small 2mm chip might be ok.

I have jet black metallic and I'm also unsure how to know my paint code!! I suspect it might be T2.

The paint code is on a label under the bonnet. There are companies on line that will mix some for you. For me, the best results I've had is to thin a small blob of paint on the back of a lid with slow thinners and puddle it in the chip with a fine artist brush. Cut the bristles to about 3 mm long, tapered to a point. Buy some x3 magnification glass as you want the chip to look like a crater. Carefully fill in the chip. The paint will shrink away when dry because it's thinned so you will need a few applications. Leave slightly low and repeat the process with the clear lacquer top coat. The alternative is use an air brush.

Yep. Mine's got 2 now. White paint chipped down to black plastic - why do they do that? Why not white plastic?

Cheers

You can order a touch up pen direct from Porsche parts ( under £20? Last time I bought) you can use your paint or vin code but they will probably know it, had a basalt black metallic straight off shelf, jet black metallic is the current standard. if the chip isn't too serious as already said build up small amounts in layers slowly, letting each layer dry thoroughly, good tip is to use a cocktail stick to apply

Some paint batches have two, three or even four letters, numbers or both so that could be it.

Buy touch up kit from ChipEx as the colour match will be spot on unlike the dealer supplied kits

Has anyone used the Chipex product? I see that it comes with everything you need and their video makes it look quite simple but as I would not usually tackle any jobs like this I wondered if it is as straightforward as they make it look.

We have a mark on ours. Looks like someone opened their door onto the rear bumper and the mark looks like road tar because of the black plastic underneath. I wouldn't trust myself to try and fix it and given that it's a £60K car and I want it done properly, it'll be going to a professional.
